Mañío Gewürztraminer

Dominique Lehmann’s family is originally from the Alsace region of France, which is famous for its aromatic Gewürztraminer. She convinced Fernando to plant a half hectare of the variety, in order to produce a still wine for family and friends in Chile. Every year, after all the sparkling wine grapes have been brought in, we continue the harvest with the Gewürztraminer. The juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged over the winter before blending. The vineyard expresses lovely aromas of rose petal, lychee, and pink grapefruit. Gewürztraminer has a richness on the palate and an almost oily mouthfeel, but it lacks acidity, so we blend in 10 to 25% Chardonnay, depending on the vintage, to balance the palate and thus create an ideal wine for fans of aromatic white blends. This unique white blend is bottled under two labels: Nikita Gewürztraminer for family and friends of Dominique Lehmann and Mañío Gewürtztraminer for commercial distribution and export.
